Autumn Scene Set-ups

Autumn Scene Set-Ups is a hands-on, dementia-friendly activity designed to encourage creativity, choice, conversation, and reminiscence without requiring a “right” answer.

This packet includes four different seasonal scenes:

• Set Up the Apple Orchard
• Set Up the Haunted House
• Set Up the Campsite
• Set Up the Halloween Party

Each activity includes a colorful background scene, large easy-to-cut pieces, and simple instructions. Participants choose the items they want to use and arrange them on the background to create their own version of the scene. Pieces can be moved, changed, removed, and rearranged, making the activities reusable rather than one-and-done.

The pieces were intentionally kept larger, recognizable, and easier to handle, making the activities appropriate for many people living with dementia or others who benefit from simplified visual and fine-motor tasks.

These activities can be used one-to-one, independently with appropriate support, or with a small group. Facilitators can also use the pieces as natural conversation starters—talking about apple picking, camping trips, Halloween costumes, favorite fall traditions, or simply asking, “Where do you think this should go?”

For repeated use, consider laminating the backgrounds and cut-out pieces and storing each activity in its own envelope or zippered bag.
