Get ready to celebrate Canada's birthday with a toe-tapping twist on a classic favourite! Canada Day Music Bingo brings together the greatest hits by Canadian artists — from classic rock anthems to beloved folk songs and pop favourites — for a fun, engaging game perfect for all ages and abilities.
Participants listen to clips of famous songs, then mark off the matching title on their bingo card. With large-print cards, simple rules, and a festive Canada Day atmosphere, this activity is designed to spark joy, stir memories, and get everyone humming along together.
How to play
Setup: Give each player a bingo card and markers (coins, stickers, or bingo chips work great). Choose either the 3×3 easy card or the traditional 5×5 card depending on your group.
Playing: The caller plays a clip of each song and reads out the song title and artist. Players find the song on their card and mark it off. The caller can share a fun fact about the song to add extra enjoyment and spark conversations.
Winning: The first player to mark a full row, column, or diagonal calls out "Bingo!" — or for extra Canadian flair, shout "Eh!" 🍁
Tips for players with dementia
Music is a powerful memory trigger. Use the 3×3 card for a shorter, less overwhelming game. Encourage humming and singing along — participation matters more than winning. Keep rounds short (15–20 minutes), and celebrate every marked square with enthusiasm. Familiar songs from the 1950s–1980s tend to resonate most deeply.
Here's your complete Canada Day Music Bingo kit! Here's what's included:
Description — ready-to-use activity description explaining the game, how to play, and specific tips for participants.
Playlist — all 30 songs by Canadian artists, spanning decades from Leonard Cohen and Gordon Lightfoot to Alanis Morissette and Shania Twain. A link is provided to the YouTube playlist, facilitator can choose what order to play songs, or just hit play, sit back and enjoy.
Bingo Cards — two sizes you can switch between:
15 - 4×4 "Easy" card — ideal for dementia care, fewer squares, less overwhelming
25- 5×5 "Classic" card — for those who want the full bingo experience
Caller Cards — all 30 songs listed with a fun fact for each one to read aloud, sparking conversation and memories as you play.
A few suggestions for printing: the 3×3 cards print beautifully at large font size, and laminating them means you can reuse them with dry-erase markers. Bingo chips, coins, or Canada Day stickers all make great markers!
