Bring energy, laughter, and friendly competition into your activity sessions with Pair Me Up: July Edition, a fast-paced matching game specially designed for older adults in care settings.
Inspired by the classic Spot It / Dobble-style gameplay, this engaging activity encourages residents to stay focused, socialize, and practice visual recognition skills while enjoying festive July-themed vocabulary and imagery.
This resource comes with two differentiated levels, allowing you to adapt the game to different cognitive and ability needs in your home:
- Option 1 (Easier level): Ideal for residents with early-stage dementia, or those in residential care who benefit from simpler visual processing tasks and reduced cognitive load. Each card includes only 4 images, making it easier to spot matches quickly and build confidence. This set includes 13 cards and 13 icons in total.
- Option 2 (Challenging level): Designed for more cognitively engaged residents or those who enjoy a greater challenge. Each card includes 6 images, increasing visual scanning and processing demands. This set includes 31 cards and 31 icons, offering a more dynamic, fast-paced game experience.
The goal is simple: players race to spot the matching image between their card and the center card before anyone else!
► How to Play
- Deal the cards to the players.
- Place one card face up in the center.
- Players look only at the top card of their pile.
- The objective is to be the first to get rid of all their cards by finding the matching image with the center card.
- When a match is spotted, the player says the word or names the image and places their card on top of the center pile.
- Play continues until one player uses all their cards and wins.
Please note that it does require some preparation, as the cards need to be cut into circles; however, we recommend laminating the set to ensure durability and allow for multiple uses over time. Once prepared, the full set of printable cards is ready for simple, straightforward use, making it a great option for busy activity directors and allowing residents to enjoy the game again and again.
