Have a collection of used postage stamps? Put them to work!
Let’s Investigate: Postage Stamps turns a collection of used stamps into a low-prep senior activity filled with choice, conversation and discovery.
Residents browse, sort and compare stamps, follow whatever catches their interest, and choose favorites to curate their own miniature Stamp Gallery.
A flower, familiar face, faraway place, or unusual cancellation mark can spark a memory, question, or curiosity.
No stamp collecting experience is needed.
The included Leader Discovery Guide gives activity professionals practical ways to encourage conversation, investigate interesting finds and support different levels of participation.
Participants finish by arranging their favorite stamps in a printable Gallery View, creating a personal collection based entirely on what caught their eye.
What’s Included:
• 8 printable Stamp Gallery View options
• Conversation & discovery prompts
• A suggested Explore → Choose → Arrange → Attach approach
• Ideas for looking closer and investigating interesting finds
• Tips for helping participants
• Suggestions for extending and sharing the experience
• Leader guidance for an easy, flexible session
Perfect For:
• Low-prep senior programming
• Conversation and social groups
• History and lifelong-learning programs
• Reminiscence and storytelling
• Mixed-ability groups
• Small groups or one-on-one engagement
• Anyone with a box of old stamps waiting to be explored
Just add used postage stamps and your choice of adhesive. Optional magnifying glasses, stamp catalogs or reference books, and a phone or tablet with image search can take the investigation even further.
Designed by teaching artist Julie Mader and field-tested with older adults, this Caregiver’s Artbox® Quick Lesson makes it easy to offer an experience where participants can look, wonder, choose and discover together.
